About...

Sara Mackenzie is a London-based costume designer and stylist who specialises in dance, theatre and screen productions.

After graduating in 2021 from the University of Westminster with a First Class BA Honours in Fashion Design, Sara went on to work for renowned multi-disciplinary designer Gareth Pugh. It was during this time that she discovered the intersection between fashion and costume. Sara assisted in the creation of stage costumes for performers such as Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga, and in 2022 prototyped props and installation models for the ‘This Bright Land’ Festival held at Somerset House. Sara was also part of the design and development team responsible for creating Wayne McGregor’s ‘MaddAddam’, a ballet based on Margaret Atwood’s dystopian epic book that premiered in Toronto by the National Ballet of Canada in 2022 and in London by the Royal Ballet in 2024.

Since 2022, Sara has decided to completely dedicate herself to the world of costume and - after gaining a wide range of experience with organisations such as the Royal Ballet and Opera and Sadler’s Wells - she now operates on a freelance basis working across a broad spectrum of dance, opera, theatre, film, music video and commercial productions, fulfilling various roles from assistant to head designer. She has designed costumes for performances on stage in London and more recently with the GyÅ‘ri Balett (Hungary).

Sara is first and foremost a designer, who loves working alongside other creatives to put forward effective visual concepts and tell stories through colour, texture, shape and form. She is constantly open to consider new collaborative opportunities and is looking forward to hear about your project, populate your world and make your vision come to life!
